Dear students,

Thank you for participating in today’s (intense) class and for your valuable contributions and insights on Spivak’s concept of the subaltern. I believe we are gradually developing some critical perspectives to apply to the (postcolonial) reading of literary texts and… the world around us!

I encourage you—if you haven’t already done so—to read Spivak’s essay to ground the reflections developed today.

Our next class will be dedicated to Virginia Woolf's A Room of One’s Own. I recommend taking some time to read the full text, or at least the pages we indicated.

Additionally, I invite you to complete the assignment I explained in class:

- Review the "Chronologies" (both the one related to the Victorian Age and the Twentieth Century) available on Moodle, and select entries relevant to the evolution of women’s condition.

- Create your own chronology (date + event), ensuring you are familiar with the facts listed.

I believe this will be a helpful way to build familiarity with the cultural context we will be exploring in our next session.

One more announcement: next time, we’ll have a short session featuring a special guest, Dr. Maria Jordet from Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, who will present her research applying the concept of the subaltern to the study of Bengali folk song traditions.
