Thank you for participating in yesterday’s class and to those who shared their thoughts and asked questions. We made significant progress in advancing our critical postcolonial perspective, particularly through the reflections of Homi Bhabha.
Regarding the next class, I have reconsidered the plan I outlined yesterday. If you have not yet fully read Amitav Ghosh’s The Nutmeg's Curse (which is required for the exam), perhaps it is too ambitious at this stage to expect you to comment on a specific chapter. We will save that task for later. (Please make sure you read Ghosh's essay by tomorrow.)
Instead, I would like you to focus on developing your writing skills in preparation for the exam by completing the following assignment:

Please write a 400-word essay addressing the question provided in the Google Doc linked HERE.
Your essay should illustrate how Bhabha’s concept of 'hybridity' can be applied to one of the three chapters (choose one) of Amitav Ghosh’s The Nutmeg's Curse.
Suggested Structure:
- Introduction (100 words): Provide an overview of Bhabha’s concept of hybridity.
- General Answer (50 words): Offer a brief response to the question.
- Textual Analysis (200 words): Include 1-2 textual references from Ghosh to support your argument.
- Conclusion (50 words): Summarize your key points.
I will review and correct your submissions, and some will be commented during the next class (to highlight positive aspects!).
