International Business & Trade

Dear all,

First and foremost, I would like to sincerely express my deep gratidtude to the students who contributed a lot to today's lecture. Your continued contributions play a central role in consolidating & validating the true value of my course.

Many of you have demostrated your excellent engagement with class discussions.

Please be advised once again that my assessment methods are truly result-driven & based on meritocracy,

This is exactly the same as the way how you are evaluated when you work in the industry.

I just wanted to flag this crucial point up because it seems that a small portion of you do not understand it clearly.

I have just posted today's lecture presentation so that please feel free to download it at your opportunity.

Please read the following articles for the Monday session scheduled on 03.03.2025.

<<<Consequences of Firm Internationalization>>>
Hsu, W. T., Chen, H. L., & Cheng, C. Y. (2013). “Internationalization & Firm Performance of SMEs: The Moderating Effects of CEO Attributes.”, Journal of World Business, 48(1), 1-12.
Vermeulen, F., & Barkema, H. (2002). “Pace, Rhythm, & Scope: Process Dependence in Building a Profitable Multinational Corporation.”, Strategic Management Journal, 23(7), 637-653.

Again, I will ask you various questions in addition to the list of questions prepared.

I am looking forward to seeing well-prepared students next Monday.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to visit me duing my office hours or email me to make an appointment. I am very happy to have a chat with you about anything that you think is very important.

Last but no least, I hope that it was a valuable opportunity for you to listen to Awais's very inspirational talk.

What I felt distinctively important from his talk is "trust", "ownership (=responsibility)", & "behavioral capabilities".

In particular. At the same time, I also learnt it again that everything starts from you & comes back to you both immediately or unpredictedly in many ways. In other words, hard work always pays off on the one hand. The price you pay can be considerably higher than ever when you waste & misallocate your time & energy on the other hand.

I genuinely wish you all the best & please keep demanding the best from yourself.

Kindest regards,

Norifumi Kawai
