Dear all,

Re: July Exam

I hope that you are really doing well as always.

I trust that you are well-prepared for the final exam of my course this week.

As always, I would like to emphasize that the difficulty or ease of the exam is definitely proportional to the amount, depth & quality of your thorough preparation. Therefore, the most constructive advice I can give you at this moment is to learn profoundly in both theory & practice & prepare much more than others. You are strongly advised to double-check the presentation titled "Exam Instruction" once again.

On the exam day, please comply with the guidelines I have already outlined (see “Exam Instruction”). Just in case, I wanted to remind you of the following points:

l  Please arrive at the exam venue at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time (You will be required to wait outside until the invigilator invites you in);

l  No matter what reasons you have, late arrivals will not be allowed to take the exam on the same day, as entering after the exam has started would disrupt others;

l  Once you leave the exam room for any reason (e.g., to use the restroom), you will not be permitted to re-enter the room;

l  Please place your bag in the corner, rather than keeping it near you, on the chair, & on the floor;

l  Please switch off your mobile phone & place it in your bag - not in your pocket;

l  Any unethical behavior or suspicious actions will result in disqualifications & no grade will be awarded;

l  Seats will be assigned on the day of the exam, & further instructions will be given at that time;

l  Apple watches or similar smart devices are strictly prohibited;

l  Please do not open & even touch the exam paper until instructed to do so by the invigilator;

l  Please ensure that only your ID card, pens, a water bottle (if necessary), whiteout, highlighters, & rulers are on your desk (Pencil cases are not allowed); &

l  If you decide not to take the exam after registering officially, please notify the course convenor in advance for the sake of courtesy. There are students who consistently fail to comply with this rule, and if such behavior persists, we intend to notify the university authorities.

Overall, the grading criteria for the final exam are generally strict, as it is intended for students who have prepared at a high level. Typically, each question is based on the course materials, such as assigned academic papers and case studies. Therefore, a deep understanding of their key points, logic, & both theoretical and practical relevance is truly essential for achieving high marks. Please be advised that vague, irrelevant or inaccurate arguments will result in point deductions or no points. On the contrary, accurate presentation of the core arguments, along with applied or extended analysis, will be awarded additional points.

Wishing you the best of luck on the final exam.

Most sincerely,

Norifumi Kawai
