How to evaluate online sources using the method: Currency - Relevance - Authority - Accuracy - Purpose
Currency
Currency means the timeliness of the information.
So check:
- When was this information published or posted?
- Was it updated?
If a website hasn't been updated for a long time, the information could be obsolete. Anyway, an outdated site is suspicious, be careful in using the information. - Does my subject need only current information?
Different disciplines have different needs. For a geologist, a 19th century geological map can be still reliable, for a biologist an information of two years ago can be obsolete.
So adapt your idea of currency to your research field. - Are the links working?
If there are outdated links, this means the site is no more updated and the information can be obsolete.
